Solomon ROWE was born 15 September 1818 in Alabama. Although it is unclear where he was born, it is a estimated probability that it was in Talladega County.

On 18 December 1844 in Talladega County, Solomon married Julia Ann HARPER, daughter of Joseph HARPER.  Julia Ann was born in 1826 in South Carolina.

Their first child was born in November of 1846 in Talladega County.  He was named John Joseph.

This is a quick overview of my Roe family.  And Solomon is where the line stops, because his parents cannot be found.  I personally descend as follows: Solomon Rowe/Roe to John Joseph Roe to Alvin Silliman Roe to Dora Belle Roe Quinn to me.

On the rest of the website, you will find the family history information.  But first, I would like to give some "guesstimated" ideas on the family:

Solomon and Julia named their first son John Joseph.  Since Julia's father's name was Joseph, it stands to reason that their son was named after each father.  Therefore, Solomon's father could very well have been named John ROWE.

The family relocated from Talladega County, AL to Texas sometime between about 1851-1852.  They are found in Upshur County, TX in 1860.

Even though the surname was spelled ROWE, by the time the family had arrived in Texas, they had started spelling it ROE.  However, even up into the 1930's, some members of the family would still periodically use the original spelling of ROWE.  There is no information that tells why the name was changed.

Most who are researching this line believe Solomon to have died in about 1900 in Harrison County, TX, and that he is most likely buried in Harrison County.  However, I recently found him still living in 1900.  He was living in the home of his son Jefferson D. Roe, in Hunt County, TX as of 14 June 1900, according to the date the census was taken.

By 1910, Jefferson and his family had relocated to Panola County.  Solomon is no longer with them, and it is obvious he had passed away, since he was already 82 years old in 1900.  Solomon's gravesite could be in Hunt, Panola, or any of the counties in between.

Now, to take a look at the information concerning the family, please continue to follow the links through this website.
